It is Allah who made for you the earth a place of settlement and the sky a ceiling and formed you and perfected your forms and provided you with good things. That is Allah, your Lord; then blessed is Allah , Lord of the worlds.(Qur'an, 40:64)

When was the last time you went a whole day without looking at your phone?

When did you last pray outside, connecting with your Lord in the most natural of ways?

When was the last time you can honestly say you felt alive?

Spring is the time of renewal, growth, and rebirth, and is the best time to detach from your busy life and be reminded of the more important things- faith, family, and well-being.

  • Go on a picnic with your family, complete with a basket and checkered blanket. Book that vacation you’ve been dreaming about.
  • Plan a hiking trip with your friends where the reward at the summit is an inspiring halaqa.
  • Engage in activities where you can appreciate nature, refresh your spirit, and maybe even contemplate the meaning of life a bit.

And don’t think you have to go far for an adventure. Excitement can be as close as your backyard or neighborhood. Unplug and actually look at the world around you – you’ll be surprised the things you notice just by paying attention. Make this a multi-sensory adventure.

Take out the headphones and listen to the sounds of nature around you. Breathe deeply and be reminded of what fresh air tastes like. Feel the cool grass or sand beneath your feet as you stand before your Lord. If you find your inspiration running dry, look no further than Surah Ar-Rahman to ignite your love for nature and desire to connect with the world around you. The trees, the moon and stars, the blessings from the ocean, they are all given their due recognition in the most beautiful of ways.

Let this surah remind you of the amazing things we have been given and the abundant beauty around us. You’d be surprised what a little sunshine and a new perspective can do for your disposition. And which of the Favors of your Lord do you deny?
